Just Announced: Panasonic LUMIX S1R & S1

In keeping with tradition, news from Photokina has not disappointed.

Panasonic wowed us with an announcement of two new Full Frame Mirrorless bodies, the LUMIX S1R and the S1. Some of the most popular cameras, in the LUMIX line up to date have included the GH5/GH5S, especially for those capturing video.

The LUMIX S1R and S1 offer 4K 60p video recording function and the Dual I.S. image stabilization system. This key feature will be something filmmakers on the go will really look to in this system. The camera will have a tilting touchscreen and dual card slots: one XQD and one SD.

The LUMIX S1R boasts a 47 megapixel sensor and the S1 will have a 24 megapixel sensor.
With the release of the LUMIX S1R and S1 there will new three new lenses, a 50mm f/1.4, 24-105mm and a 28-70mm; with upwards of 10 more lenses in the road map through 2020.

Additional announcements included a strategic cooperation between Leica Camera, Panasonic and SIGMA: the L-Mount Alliance. This collaboration enables Panasonic and SIGMA to make use of the L-Mount standard developed by Leica for their own system. This opens up the spectrum of possibilities.

Panasonic anticipates the S1R and S1 will be available in early 2019.
